About Simon Schot

Simon Schot was one of the inaugural Directors of ATMS. He created and produced the first ATMS Newsletter, which preceded the current ATMS Journal. Simon received Life Membership in 1989 in recognition of the personal and financial support he provided to the Association in its early days. Simon was highly regarded and generous with his knowledge and support of other practitioners and students. In appreciation of both the legacy he left behind and his vision, ATMS has proudly dedicated this Education Grant to Simon since 1998.

Successful Applications

The Simon Schot Education Grants are awarded annually at the ATMS Gala Dinner. Recipients are announced during the Gala Dinner and their names are published in the ATMS Journal and the Wise ‘n Well e‑newsletter.

Grant recipients are generally required to pay for their nominated course or activity upfront and then submit a copy of the receipt to ATMS for reimbursement.

Recipients have six (6) months from the time of the AGM/Gala Dinner to redeem their Education Grant. Any grants not claimed within this period will be redirected to support ATMS-delivered continuing education activities for the benefit of all members.

Recipients will be contacted in April for a brief interview with the ATMS CEO. This interview will record how the Simon Schot Award was used and highlight the recipient’s ongoing education and professional development in natural medicine.

How applications are assessed

Eligible applications are assessed using a de‑identified process (assessors do not see names or personal details). Each application is scored on a 1–4 scale against:

  1. Relevance to natural medicine & learning goals — how well the education supports your learning and development in natural medicine.
  2. Expected benefit / impact — the practical skills or outcomes you expect and how it supports your professional development.
  3. Access & financial impact — how the AU$500 will meaningfully help you undertake the education.

Grants are awarded to the top ten (10) eligible applicants. If scores are tied, successful applicants will be determined by a random selection process administered by the ATMS Office using a random number generator or other impartial method.
