- Naturopathy and Herbal Medicine Update: ATMS Position on Statutory Registration
ATMS has released its official position statement in response to the recent submission by the Australian Register of Naturopaths and Herbalists (ARONAH) and the Australian Naturopathic Council (ANC) seeking statutory registration of naturopathy and Western herbal medicine under NRAS.
This is an important issue for the profession, with broad implications for practitioners.
Based on the available evidence and the public interest test, ATMS does not support statutory registration at this time. We believe the profession is already supported by strong self-regulation through associations, education and professional standards, and that the focus should be on strengthening and modernising existing frameworks rather than adding unnecessary regulatory burden.
ATMS recently hosted a member webinar to explain its position, provide context on how NRAS works, answer member questions and gather feedback to help inform next steps. You can watch the recording or read the full position statement here to learn more.
