It is with deep respect and gratitude that we honour the life of Henry Osiecki, award-winning biochemist, educator, and founder of Bio Concepts, who passed away recently. A true pioneer of the Australian natural medicine industry, Henry dedicated more than four decades to transforming the landscape of nutritional healthcare, advancing practitioner standards, and championing education across the sector.
Remarkably, Henry founded Bio Concepts in 1984 — the very same year ATMS was established. From the beginning, his vision aligned with ours: to elevate the practice of natural medicine in Australia with integrity, innovation, and science-backed care. He helped shift the industry from a pharmaceutical framework to a more individualised, biochemical approach to treatment.
As a clinician, Henry grew frustrated with the lack of transparency and quality in practitioner-only products. With the support of his wife, Dr. Vera Russo, he established Bio Concepts, setting new benchmarks in supplement purity, formulation, and excipient disclosure.
Henry was instrumental in introducing groundbreaking nutrients to Australia, including Coenzyme Q10, Lipoic Acid, Acetyl-L-Carnitine, Glucosamine, and 5-HTP — now cornerstones of complementary medicine. But his passion extended far beyond product innovation. He was a tireless educator, lecturing across Australia and internationally, authoring books like The Nutrient Bible, and developing educational programs for universities and healthcare professionals alike.
In 2013, he founded the Bio Concepts Education Centre, one of the first online learning platforms designed specifically for natural health practitioners. His lifelong dedication to accessible, evidence-based education helped shape generations of clinicians and students.
Henry’s contributions were recognised widely, including receiving the Lady Cilento Award from Complementary Medicines Australia in 2018. His work not only advanced the natural medicine profession but also helped build its credibility and clinical relevance in modern healthcare.
Today, Bio Concepts continues under the leadership of his son, Dr. Michael Osiecki, ensuring that the family’s commitment to excellence, education, and innovation lives on.
