Meet the Winners of the 2020 Natural Medicine Awards

On Saturday evening (14 November), ATMS hosted the Natural Medicine Awards Gala Dinner in Sydney, which celebrated the 12 finalists for Practitioner of the Year, Clinic of the Year and Student of the Year.

 

The event included a special keynote speaker, Dr Monique Lewis, a communications scholar, sociologist and lecturer in media and communication at Griffith University, who presented on Anti-CAM lobbyists: Protecting the citizens or running a misinformation campaign?

ATMS congratulates the 2020 winners and highly commended finalists for Practitioner of the Year, Clinic of the Year and Student of the Year. All finalists demonstrated a passion for and excellence in their field and have made significant contributions to the natural medicine industry and the health and wellbeing of Australians.

Amy Tyler
Remedial Massage Therapist

Amy Tyler – Oncology, Scar & Lymphoedema Massage

Amy qualified in Remedial Massage in 2001. She has run a successful private practice since 2004 and has continued her education in hands-on evidence-based therapies. She is a skilled therapist with extensive experience and specialises in Oncology Massage and Scar Tissue Release as well as being an internationally accredited teacher for modules 1 and 2 of the Oncology Massage Training program. Amy has a caring, thoughtful and respectful manner and aims to make a positive difference to the lives of people seeking massage treatment.

 

With extensive post-graduate and hospital-based training, Amy combines her techniques to best suit the needs of each client whether they are suffering the stress of daily life or have chronic or life limiting-illness. She believes treatment should not add to the burden of a body that is already undergoing other extensive treatment.

Rachel Aldridge
Naturopath
In Natures Hands

Rachel is a fully qualified Naturopath based in Sydney’s North West who holds an Advanced Diploma in Naturopathy from Nature Care College. Rachel’s passion for naturopathy and gut health was sparked when experiencing her own gut issues many years ago and the only person who could bring everything back into balance was a naturopath. This is what finally inspired her to follow her ‘gut feelings’ and study to become a naturopath. 

 

Rachel’s background is in the corporate world, so she understands the stresses and the balancing act that comes with budgets and deadlines. Her experience allows her to bring a unique perspective when working with clients to reduce the overwhelm that often comes with wellness.  

Rachel is also a wife and mother from Baulkham Hills in NSW. She has a passion for talking about health and wellness, especially gut health, and making it all come to life for people – removing a lot of the big words and showing why these things are so important.

Liza Oates PhD
Naturopath, Nutritionist and Western Herbal Medicine
Liza Oates – Wellness Consultant, Naturopath & Mentor

Liza Oates PhD has been practicing as a naturopath and wellness consultant for over 20 years and has been involved in the clinical education of hundreds of naturopaths, nutritionists and medical students. Her doctoral research investigated ‘the health and wellness effects of organic diets’ and she has contributed to several textbooks and authored over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles.

 

Liza teaches Clinical Studies and Integrative Complementary Medicine; and supervises naturopathic student clinics at SSNT at Torrens University. She is also an Adjunct Fellow in the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine at Southern Cross University and will be teaching into the new postgraduate programs in Naturopathic Medicine and Organic Food and Nutrition. Previously she helped to develop the world’s first Master of Wellness program at RMIT University where she taught Food as Medicine and Wellness Practices and Perspectives. 

 

Liza is a current board member for the Jacka Foundation of Natural Therapies whose mission is to promote the development of a community of researchers, scholars and leaders in the Australian naturopathic profession. She has previously served on the board of the Australian Register of Naturopaths and Herbalists (ARONAH) and is also a member of the Environmental Subcommittee of the Naturopaths and Herbalists Association of Australia (NHAA). 

 

In addition to her academic commitments Liza practices as a naturopath from Malvern Natural Health Care and facilitates individualised online wellness programs. She is passionate about the role of food in health and the importance of individualised approaches that recognise the impact of lifestyle, values and culture.

Samantha Wolfe   
Switch on Health

Samantha enrolled in the Advanced Diploma of Homoeopathic Practice at Switch on Health back in January 2020.

 

Samantha demonstrates a real commitment to becoming the best practitioner she can be. Already being a cranio-sacral therapist, she is in the process of adding Homeopathy to her skill set. Samantha is dedicated to acquiring the best possible knowledge and understanding, with which to help her future clients, and she is willing to put in the effort to get there.

Laura is in the final year of studying a BHSc in Naturopathy at Endeavour College, NSW. Over the course of her degree she supported fellow students in their studies, received a national bursary award and is currently finalising two articles to be submitted for publication. Laura works part-time in a multi-modality clinic in Sydney CBD in an administrative role supporting industry leaders.

Cherry’s skills are already being already recognised, with a booked out College Clinic and further gaining a large clientele within the community where she is providing a unique 3 step process for her clients – with Remedial Massage, Personal Training and Strength Development, and now expanding further into Nutrition.

Sarah Young

Sarah is studying a Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathic Medicine at Endeavour College Perth. After many years of inspiring the leaders of the future in the primary school classroom, Sarah was inspired to study natural medicine, especially because of her own health challenges and autoimmune diagnosis. Sarah says treating the whole person and making long-term lifestyle changes has been the key to her own physical and mental wellbeing and she is excited to finally be sharing her knowledge and encouraging real-life clients to do the same. Sarah is passionate about supporting others towards their goals and with only 6 months left of her degree she is eagerly anticipating the next challenge of launching a small clinical practice where she can share the combination of traditional natural medicine wisdom and evidenced-based science that is Naturopathy.
