What is your role at your organisation and how do you support practitioners /or the industry?

I’m Sandra Wood, Marketing Manager – ANZ Practitioner, for Integria Healthcare brands, MediHerb, Eagle and Eagle Clinical. Our range of Practitioner brands, resources and education supports practitioners by bringing them efficacious, stringently tested formulas and the latest in clinically applicable information.

How did you get into your field of expertise and why do you stay?

Having qualifications in both Marketing and Naturopathy has allowed me the opportunity to enter into my current role. It is an exciting field, which involves brand strategy, product development and creating useful patient and clinic resources for healthcare practitioners. Working for a company that is committed to natural healthcare and values quality, education and cutting-edge research is the best reason to stay.

What has been the main focus or outcomes of your work over the past year?

Supporting practitioners in the Natural Healthcare Industry through COVID-19 and the impact it has had on our communities, businesses and mental health.

How has your field changed in the past 5 years? What new areas are emerging?

The industry is becoming more evidenced-based, however, practitioners are not losing sight of our key principles and philosophies and are applying up-to-date research with tradition.

When treating the cause, we are still focusing on ‘treating the gut’ with an understanding of its impact on multiple body systems. What is exciting, is emerging research on the gut microbiome which is broadening our understanding and re-enforcing the importance of gut health for our overall health and wellbeing.

What do you predict will happen in the next 5 to 10 years in your particular field?

Digital marketing has grown so much and as a society, we have been continually moving into this space, however, with COVID-19 affecting the way many people work and communicate, it has pushed us further down this road in a very short time.

What is the one-way you believe natural medicine practitioners, can make a difference for their clients?

The way that natural medicine practitioners conduct consults sets us apart and allows time to really engage with our patients. Taking the time to listen to people makes a big difference and especially at this time of social distancing, the connections we make with our clients is really important, to not only their health and wellbeing but ours as well.

What are the questions you get asked the most by practitioners, and how do you answer it?

What is it like to work for MediHerb? MediHerb is such an amazing brand to be part of. Learning about the entire process of herbal manufacturing and being surrounded by some of the most inspiring people in the industry has been a wonderful experience.

Fun Fact for the Readers: Tell us who inspires you / or who your professional idol is and why?

I am really inspired by people that have overcome adversity to share their stories of hope, courage and inspiration with others. One of these is Viktor Frankl – who wrote: Man’s Search for Meaning.  His observations of human nature amidst one of history’s most horrifying experiences are inspirational. He noticed that while we are unable to always control our environment or what happens to us, we can choose our attitude – this is really empowering.
