to the Australian Traditional-Medicine Society
The Australian Traditional-Medicine Society (ATMS) is Australia's
largest professional association of complementary medicine practitioners,
representing about 65% of the total complementary medicine profession.
The complementary medicine profession consists of massage therapists,
herbalists, acupuncturists, homeopaths, naturopaths and nutritionists.
ATMS was founded in 1984 and is an incorporated not-for-profit company
with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ABN 46
002 844 233). As at late July 2008, ATMS had 11,249 financial members.
ATMS is governed by the Executive Board of Directors, and has four
main national committees. The Departments of Massage Therapy, Traditional
Chinese Medicine, Homeopathy, Naturopathic Nutrition, Naturopathy
and Western Herbal Medicine were established to address the specific
needs of practitioners in these disciplines.
ATMS is the largest professional association of massage therapists,
herbalists, naturopaths, homeopaths and nutritionists. ATMS is the
second largest professional association of acupuncturists and Chinese
herbalists.
ATMS is the only complementary medicine association represented on two Commonwealth statutory committees.
