The Australian Traditional-Medicine Society (ATMS) is Australia's
largest professional association of natural medicine practitioners,
representing about 65% of the total natural medicine profession.
ATMS was founded in 1984 and is an incorporated not-for-profit company
with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ABN 46
002 844 233). As at November 2010, ATMS had 11,757 financial members.
ATMS is the only natural medicine practitioner association appointed
to two Commonwealth statutory committees, where it represents the
interests of the entire natural medicine practitioner profession.
ATMS is governed by an Executive Board of Directors. The functions
of ATMS are carried out by the Directors, assisted by fulltime and
part-time staff. Additionally specialised Departments of Massage Therapy,
Traditional Chinese Medicine, Homeopathy, Naturopathic Nutrition,
Naturopathy and Western Herbal Medicine address the specific needs
of practitioners in these disciplines. State Representatives further
represent the needs of members and promote ATMS in each State and
the ACT. (Please see under Structure
for more details of these office holders.)
ATMS offer three categories of membership: Accredited, Student and
Associate. The benefits of each category of membership may be found
in the Membership Application form under the Membership
Qualifications page of this website.
